| About the Area: |
Situated just outside the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow, it is the location of Linlithgow Cottages which makes it the perfect centre for a holiday in Scotland. Linlithgow itself is an historic town, and its Palace was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, mother of James VI of Scotland who became, as James VI and I, the first King of the United Kingdom. However there are many other historic sites locally, including Blackness Castle, popular with film-makers; Rosslyn Chapel, made famous by the film of The Da Vinci Code: Cairnpapple Hill, one of the oldest sites in the UK; and historic houses like Hopetoun House and the House of the Binns. The Bonsyde House Hotel, adjacent to the cottages, is an historic house itself, dating back to the 1820's. However, for cottage guests, it is equally attractive for providing outstanding food in the Conservatory Restaurant, and it's bar is very handy indeed!
Just 12 miles away is Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, and easily accessed from the cottages both by road and rail - from the local station it is just 15 minutes into Princes Street in the heart of the city. Glasgow, site of the next Commonwealth Games, is equally accessible, and famous towns like Stirling and Perth are less than an hour's drive away, with the whole of the Southern Highlands in easy reach. The world famous St Andrews, home of golf, is also less than an hour's drive, and if golf is your thing, courses like Muirfield and Gleneagles are just as close.
