Getting here From Kerikeri Here are the directions to get to Eagles Nest from the Kerikeri Airport. Depart the airport, turn left on Wairoa Road and travel towards Kerikeri. Turn right at the stop sign onto state highway 10. Follow south for approximately 15 minutes until you come to the PUKETONA intersection on your left hand side. TURN LEFT here and head towards the town of PAIHIA. Turn right when you come the Paihia ‘roundabout’. Follow the along the waterfront and pass through Paihia. From here follow the winding road until you come to the OPUA TURNOFF on your left hand side. Follow down to the car ferry. You will need to use the Opua car FERRY to get to the Russell peninsula. There are ferries every 10 minutes and the trip takes only 5 minutes. The cost varies according to vehicle. Once off the ferry, follow the main road to RUSSELL. This takes around 4-5 minutes. Travel straight through the Russell main street and go up FLAGSTAFF HILL ROAD. This is a steep road. Continue to follow the road around to the left when you get to the top of the hill. On the left hand side you will see a road called Titore Way. Directly after this road is a long driveway marked with a sign that says PRIVATE. The driveway has a long STONE WALL. Turn down this driveway. Come down to the fourth driveway on your right – the Eagles Nest office.

| About the Area: |
Russell and the Bay of Islands Russell was the first capital of New Zealand and one of the first European settlements. The town is rich in history with a variety of shops and services that do not spoil the old charm. Hours can be spent in the museum tracing the towns history from the first European settlers, whaling and marine history. Even the headstones at New Zealand’s first church have a story to tell.
Shops include 2 supermarkets, bakery, liquor store, video rental, hardware, news agent, chemist (drug store), business centre, famous fish & chips, antiques, gifts, fuel, fishing tackle, dive fills, attraction booking offices, hardware, fashion, antiques, pottery and more/
The waterfront The Strand today has a serenity it seldom knew in the early days when it was crowded with grog shops overlooking a bay in which whaling ships from the world over lay at anchor.
The police station building (c. 1870) was originally the customs house, built when the Bay of Islands saw a considerable amount of overseas shipping and when the American whaling industry was still flourishing. The grog shops have long gone but the Duke of Marlborough Hotel claims to hold the oldest liquor licence in the country. Now mounted close to the beach is a cannon used in the defence of the town. At the southern end of The Strand stands the supremely elegant Pompallier House.
The waterfront springs to life when large game fish are being landed. Crowds gather to watch the weigh-in and to share the delight of the proud angler.

Fishing Fishing Zane Gray's Eldorado The Bay of Islands is situated in the north of the North Island of New Zealand which is world-renowned for its sub tropical climate, exceptional beauty and scenery and the birthplace of our nation. With special thanks to the famous American, author Zane Grey, the Bay has won world acclaim as “An Angler’s El Dorado” – a book he wrote in the 1920’s, after fishing here and discovering that New Zealand offered an abundance of the largest striped marlin in the world.
