Sumner is on the East Coast of the South Island with 2 fabulous beaches to choose from with great surf when the surfs up to the right hand side of Sumner village, and then a lovely beach for children to the left hand side of Sumner village both within 5 minutes walk of the unit. Lifeguards patrol in the summer months. Coffee shops and restaurants are on the beaches to enjoy whilst watching the sun come up or go down.

Christchurch International Airport is 35 minutes away. Regular bus service into the city from Sumner Village. The port of Littleton is just over the hill by car and a 5 minute drive. Car hire is easy and recommended so that you can travel over the hills and around the local area to wineries etc.
Akaroa Harbour is an hours drive away on the Banks Peninsula.
Twizel and Mount Cook the highest peak in NZ are 4 hours drive south.
Kikoura is 1.5 hours north up the coast to the whale watching and dolphins not to mention the seals and paua shell fish.
Picton and the Marborough Sounds are 4-5 hours drive North of Christchurch.

There are numerous golf courses dotted around Christchurch.
Skiing
Southern Highlands Ski fields are all within 1.5 hours of Christchurch. Lots of families will go up just for a days skiing and will hire their kit in Christchurch and go early and get back at 5pm.
