Ski Holidays in the Rhone-Alpes Le Duplex' offers accommodation in a unique penthouse in the 'Portes du Soleil'. This ski area has 650km of skiable pistes and links 12 different resorts across the French and Swiss Alps.
We are in the beautiful alpine village of La Chapelle d'Abondance, in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps.
Le Duplex is situated in a large penthouse suite on the top two floors of a chalet-style building located at the foot of the Mont de Grange nature reserve and the River Dranse; only minutes walk to the local ski lifts of 'Cret Beni', and to the village centre.
Space is an unusual thing to find in Alpine ski accommodation but 'Le Duplex' has lots of it with a floorspace of more than 300sqm (larger than most 5 bedroom houses!)
We have floor plans of the rooms but you cannot appreciate the space until you are here, no more bunk beds squashed into corridors or half sized baths that's for sure. 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms 14 guests

It was built in the 1970s and we have embraced this by combining original features with a retro, contemporary approach to the interior design and to the furniture and fittings.
The overall feel of the place is stylish yet with a sense of fun (or maybe it's the other way round)! Whichever way, we are sure you will feel at home staying with us.
Le Duplex boasts an impressive social area with a double height ceiling into the roof and an immense floor space, but with sloping ceilings and a massive log fire it still has a homely atmosphere.
With large windows on all sides of the building you can see the amazing landscape surrounding the property.
With three sofa areas and two dining tables there is plenty of room for everyone to make themselves at home and for different activities to go on at the same time.
With Le Duplex you will find: • Flexible accommodation with weekend and part/week bookings available. • Flexible eating arrangements – You can choose between our Bed and Breakfast option or our Semi-Catered option. • Beds for up to 15 people in two generous double/triple en-suite bedrooms and a large family/group room with a lounge area and second bedroom. • Large bathrooms, all with showers, towels & bath products. • Dining area for up to 15 people. • Large balcony overlooking the local slopes with stunning views up and down the Abondance Valley. • Large open fireplace. • Double garage with cleaning facilities and a large car park. • Large heated storage room for all your ski equipment in the winter and bikes in the summer. • Guests washing machine and hanging space. • 'Le Duplex' is family run and your friendly hosts live permanently in the property – here to make your holiday as stress free and enjoyable as possible. • Family friendly with all the bits and bobs you might need to keep the children safe, entertained and made to feel at home. We have cots, fun blow-up beds and single beds, highchairs and booster seats, car seats, and even a buggy, DVD's and plenty of toys & books. • We can help with arranging daytime childcare in La Chapelle or Chatel's creche, and also evening babysitting. • And with transfer time less than 1 1/2 hours from Geneva and between 9 and 11 hours from Calais you can be out on the slopes in no time.

Our 'P-Star' room • A double/triple en-suite bedroom with a deluxe 70's double bed and decoration (think Austin Powers!) • A large room with two mirrored wardrobes and plenty of storage. • One wall is floor to ceiling glazed doors with the most amazing view to wake up to – the rocky peaks of the 'Mont de Grange' and the local 'Cret Beni' ski slopes. • These glass doors slide open onto the large balcony. • The luxurious en-suite bathroom has large twin basins, a huge deep bath and a walk in separate shower. • If you dare, you can enjoy a deep hot bubble bath whilst gazing at the view through another set of floor to ceiling glass doors.
Our 'Chalet' room • A modern fully equipped room but styled in the traditional alpine way. If you think you might miss the typical alpine chalet environment then this room would be perfect for you. • It has sloping wooden ceilings framing a large triangular window overlooking the stunning church of 'La Chapelle' and allows views up the Abondance Valley all the way to 'Chatel' and the pistes of 'Super Chatel'.
Our 'Board' Room • A very large room and can have a varied selection of beds to fit your accommodation needs. This room is ideal for families and groups of friends. • The end wall is floor to ceiling glazed doors with again the most amazing view to wake up to – the rocky peaks of the 'Mont de Grange'. • These doors give access out onto a long upper balcony. • The Board room comes off of a large open space – the Mezzanine. Here there is plenty of space with a sofa and table and a balustrade overlooking the main living and dining area, and access to a second bedroom. • Again this room has sliding glass doors on to the upper balcony. • A favourite past time for our guests has been to sit here on the sofa looking out onto people skiing (and falling) down the red run on our local slopes – just a stone's throw away.

| About the Area: |
• La Chapelle at an altitude of 1010m-2432m is the French starting point of the Portes du Soleil •
• This huge ski domain boasts 650km of alpine ski pistes in 12 French and Swiss resorts, including Chatel, Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets •
• These resorts are each diverse in style and age as they are in ski terrain, and most of them cater for all with a variety of piste levels and snowparks, halfpipes and bordercross runs •
'Le Duplex' is opposite La Chapelle's own attractive, gladed ski area, – 'Cret Beni'. This ski area has 8 lifts serving over 10 pistes.
The ‘Piou Piou’ club and 'ESF' ski school are located at the bottom of the slopes.
There are two slope side restaurants but if you preferred to lunch at home, it is only a 5 minute walk back to 'le Duplex'.
La Chapelle's telecabine takes you up to ski-lifts linking you to the Portes du Soleil through Torgon and Morgins in Switzerland, and Super-Chatel.
Chatel's Linga or Pre-la-Joux lifts are just 15 minutes away by car or the free resort bus. From Pre-la-Joux, Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets are all easily and quickly accessible via just a few pistes and chairs.

Location: We are on the French/Swiss border just below Lake Geneva, 1 1/2 hours drive from Geneva airport.
British Airways and Easyjet both fly to Geneva, where you can pick up a hire car or catch a train to Aigle in Switzerland. From here you would need to hire a taxi or use a transfer company.
We can arrange for transfers from the airport or from nearby train stations Thonon-les-bains or Aigle in Switzerland, using reliable local guys with 8 seater mini-buses. New for 2011 is a regular Geneva to Chatel shuttle bus running three times daily at the weekends.
Driving here? It's between a 9-11 hour drive from Calais. We can provide you with road directions & toll costs. Here for Spring or Summer? We recommend you bring a car and/or a bike.

Activities

Once the lifts close for spring, the surrounding area transforms into meadows full of lush green grass covered with a rainbow of wild flowers, broken only by the many waterfalls, streams and Abondance Cows.
• WALKERS This is an ideal time for walkers - the higher you climb the cooler the air and still there is the chance to find snow and use snowshoes. There are many purpose built tracks, well signposted as well as themed trails to follow. A variety of Walking and Horse riding maps, leaflets and guide books are available at the tourist office.
• WATER It is also a great opportunity for river sports (such as rafting, Tubing and Airyak) with the River Dranse fast flowing as all the snow melt runs downs the mountains and collects in the river
• CYCLING/MTB The opportunities for mountain biking and road cycling here are endless. There are marked paths to follow in the valley and up in to the mountains. 24 summer lifts are open to give you access to 650km of marked tracks and 4 bike parks including Pre-la-Joux's Bike park and Chatel's permanent downhill trails.
• OTHER DELIGHTS The mountains offer us the most magnificent views when walking, cycling or pony/horse riding. But you can also view the sights from the air either by para-gliding or by flying high on a cable from one side of the valley to the other, with the "Fantasticable". At the base of Pre-la-Joux you also have the thrill of the Bob Luge - a summer bobsleigh run complete with a built in lift to reach the top. Next to this are the Devalkart and the Rollerbe scooter runs, also both with lifts to get you up to the top. For people who like to have their head in the clouds but their feet on the ground! La Chapelle and Chatel both offer many rock climbing and Via Ferrata walls.
