About the area

Location: Britford, Salisbury
Transport: We are located about 1/2 mile south of the medieval city, Salisbury, and you can follow signs to Bridge Farm, our Bed and Breakfast establishment, off the A338 Downton/Ringwood road.

It is approximately a 20 minute walk into Salisbury town centre and Cathedral. Out of town supermarket shopping is a 5 minute drive away.

We are an ideal touring base, with attractions such as Stonehendge, Avebury, Bath, Longleat House and Safari park, Wilton House and Carpet factory, and the New Forest all within easy reach.

From Salisbury...

Take the A338 South towards Ringwood. Once the houses of Salisbury have stopped, approximately 1/4 mile, take the left-hand turn into Lower Road, Britford. Drive down the hill, around a sharp right-hand bend. We are the second house. Turn between the first house, The Cheese House, and the second house, Bridge Farm, into the farmyard.

Facilities: The Old Stables are situated in a pleasant hamlet on the southern edge of the city of Salisbury.

Attractions

Salisbury Cathedral - A 20 minute walk
The focus of the City
Salisbury Cathedral is a superb example of medieval architecture boasting the tallest spire in England which dominates the city skyline. Its Chapter House contains one of the four surviving copies of Magna Carta, which is on view to visitors all year except December. Regular guided tours of the Cathedral, Tower and West Front are available.

Old Sarum - A 10 minute drive
Travel through 5,000 years of history

Discover the dramatic and divers history of this ancient hill fortress. Founded in the Iron Age, Romans, Saxons and Normans have all left their mark. Situated high above Salisbury Plain, this was the original Salisbury - and it occupies a unique place in history. William the Conqueror built a great palace and the first Salisbury Cathedral here.
Part of the Doomsday book was written here, and on it's completion it was to Sarum that William summoned all the landholders in England to swear their oath of allegiance.
Old Sarum offers superb woodland and chalk-down walks, and views across beautiful countryside covered with wild flowers. You'll have perfect settings to enjoy a site steeped in history.

Stonehenge - A 15 minute drive
Forever a Mystery

Visit the most intriguing and remarkable monument in the British Isles and a World Heritage Site. As old as the great temples and Pyramids of Egypt, Stonehenge exerts a mysterious fascination.

Make time to explore the extensive prehistoric landscape. Stonehenge is surrounded by the mysterious remains of ceremonial and domestic structures - some older than the monument itself and many accessible by road or footpath
