Lyth Hill House stands in three-quarters of an acre of secluded beautiful gardens with a wealth of interesting features, a huge variety of shrubs and an abundance of wild-life. We are in a peaceful, rural location 5 miles south of Shrewsbury, the medieval county town of Shropshire. Hundreds of listed buildings, the castle, the world-famous Dingle gardens designed by Percy Thrower and the newly opened Theatre Severn all add to the vibrancy of this border town which is steeped in the history of battles between the Welsh and the English.

Luxury B&B in Shropshire - that's how we describe Lyth Hill House - our extensive Shropshire breakfast is an essential part of that experience.
Guests enjoying breakfast at Lyth Hill HouseOur normal practice is to prepare and cook everything once you have ordered in the morning, so that we can serve it at its best. There are times, however, when a leisurely breakfast is not ideal for you and swift service is more important. If you know that you would like a cooked breakfast to be served promptly, please let us have your order the evening before and tell us the time it is required. Also, if you would like something not on the standard menu, please ask in advance and we will attempt to provide it! At Lyth Hill House there is no such thing as “portion control”, so if you would like more of anything, please ask.

About the area

Lyth Hill, Shrewsbury |
| Transport: |
Lyth Hill is just south of the County town of Shrewsbury and at the northern edge of the Shropshire Hills - Most famous of these is The Long Mynd (1,694 ft) a mecca for serious walkers, which can be equally appreciated by car, with Cardingmill Valley and its National Trust café and gift shop being particularly popular. A “must do” whilst at Lyth Hill House is to drive along our back lane past Castle Pulverbatch to Bridges and then drive upwards over the spectacular Burway route descending to Church Stretton, with the option of returning to us along the A49 or coming back over the Long Mynd again - superb!

The panoramic views from Lyth Hill House are matched, indeed possibly surpassed, by the views reached after a five-minute stroll from the house. This is the View Point in Lyth Hill Country Park overlooking the Wrekin and the South Shropshire hills. Because we are on a plateau at the top of Lyth Hill, many not able to tackle serious walking will enjoy a stroll to take in the views and appreciate the peaceful countryside. Those who rely fully on the car to enjoy the countryside can enjoy the view with ease from the car park at the panoramic view-point. We can also advise on some lovely driving routes through spectacular Shropshire scenery far from the crowds and only a stone’s throw from our home.

| About the Area: |
Lyth Hill House is situated on Lyth Hill, an unspoilt area designated a "Country Park." We are 5 miles south of Shrewsbury and our map reference is SJ 467071. We are quietly situated, overlooking miles of countryside with Shrewsbury and the Welsh Hills in the distance. There is a lovely 45 minute circular walk from our home which is a super introduction to help you find your bearings - views in every direction taking in the Wrekin, Ironbridge, Caer Caradoc, the Long Mynd, the Stiperstones, the Berwyn mountains in Wales, Nescliffe, Pimhill and Grinshill. Information on this walk and numerous others is readily available in our dining room. For serious walkers, there are many good public footpaths close to our home and the Shropshire Way is less than a half a mile from the house.

The fascinating medieval town of Shrewsbury, the centre of which is only a ten-minute drive away, has hundreds of listed buildings dating back hundreds of years. Inevitably in a town with such a sense of history, there are several Museums and there are plans to create new ones in the near future. Shopping in Shrewsbury is a delight with numerous individual retailers selling a vast range of unusual fare – a perfect place to do your Christmas shopping! Shops can even be found in tiny “shuts” – narrow passageways which form a multitude of pathways linking one street with another. It is also whilst exploring the shuts that you are likely to find the best of our tea shops and bistros.
St.Chad's over-looking the Dingle GardensChurches of historical interest abound in Shrewsbury, notably the Abbey, St.Mary's, St.Chad's and old St.Chad's. Across the road from (new) St.Chad’s church is the Quarry Park, and hidden away there you will find the Dingle Gardens always immaculate and worth a visit at any time of the year. These were once ably tended by the late Percy Thrower and are also the home of the annual world famous Shrewsbury Flower Show The "Brother Cadfael" books by Ellis Peters are set in town of Shrewsbury.
Theatre Severn and Welsh BridgeOpening early in 2009 is the Shrewsbury Theatre Severn, a state-of–the-art new building on the banks of the river Severn close to the Welsh Bridge, a long-awaited entertainment venue. For cinemas fans we have the usual 8 screen cinema as well as an inspirational “film and media centre” located in the ancient and beautifully renovated Old Market Hall Shrewsbury.
