| About the Area: |
Woodstock is an ancient market town in Oxfordshire, England on the river Glyme, 8 miles North West of Oxford. Woodstock is well placed as a base for visiting the Cotswolds, Stratford-upon-Avon (the birth place of William Shakespeare), Oxford's glorious colleges and great shops and it's an easy trip to London. Woodstock has long been known for it's manufacture of gloves and the town dates back to Anglo-Saxon origins and at one time had a Royal Palace which stood in the what is now Blenheim Park, the seat of the Duke of Marlborough. Today Woodstock has many small and unique shops plus a bank, chemist, traditional butcher and well stocked supermarket for your everyday needs. Little Peacock House is an ideal location for the many Blenheim Park events that take place throughout the year. Although full of history, Woodstock is a sophisticated town providing a superb shopping and dining experience - in fact we think that Woodstock is one of the country’s ‘best kept secrets’! |

Oxford is just 8 miles from Woodstock and boasts many shops, restaurants and bars and, of course, it's world famous colleges. Or you can take in a film at one of the Oxford's cinemas. Shopping is excellent in the city with many leading brands having a store there. Woodstock is on an excellent bus route with regular buses to and from Oxford. Many of our guests visit London which is an easy drive or there's an excellent bus link. Blenheim Park hosts many events throughout the whole year including Music Concerts, The Blenheim Park International Horse Trials September 11th- 14th, Craft Fairs and many Exhibitions (please look at the Blenheim Palace official website for details).

There are some fabulous walks around the Woodstock area including Blenheim Park, Wychwood Forest and Kings Wood - there are reports of James I hunting here early in the 17th century. The remains of a Roman Villa can be found just a few miles away and can be viewed as part of a walk between the villages of Combe, East End and Stonesfield where there is an abundance of Jurassic fossils. The village of Stonesfield is just 5 miles from Woodstock and is world famous for many vertebrate fossils and the discovery of the remains of many terrestrial dinosaurs.
