| About the Area: |
Wickham house affords easy access to the Lincolnshire coast. There is a bird reserve at Tetney Haven, a colony of grey seals at Donna Nook and Marsh Orchids at Rumac. On the marsh the quiet lanes and footpaths offer excellent opportunities for walking and cycling. A landscape with watermills, redundant churches, abandoned mediaeval villages, Lincoln Red cattle, Long Wool sheep and redbrick farmsteads. On the gentle slopes of the wolds, the blue Stone Heath Road and Viking Way guide the traveller though peaceful villages to sweeping views of the coastal plain, and shipping on the estuary beyond.
The seaside resorts of Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea with their wide sandy beaches, and the large holiday resort of Cleethorpes and Skegness are within easy reach.
The battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at R.A.F. Coningsby, is open to the public and has the only flying Lancaster (City of Lincoln) in its care. Nearby is Tattershall Castle run by the National Trust. Woodhall Spa has a special Victorian appeal. There are antique centres at Horncastle and Hemswell. Snipedales Country Park, Old Bolingbroke Castle and 'Tennyson Country' all contribute to the peace and beauty
