| About the Area: |
Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds (and even the country). Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village with its steep hills and houses perched along small donkey tracks. A walkers' paradise with beautiful scenery around every corner. The narrow High Street winds its way through the village past an amazing array of characterful cottages. Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many Listed mills dotted along the old Thames and Severn Canal. Many houses you still can't drive to and the community of Chalford has even re-established use of a donkey for grocery deliveries! In the village is a small shop run by volunteers selling a selection of lovely organic goodies and a short walk away are some great pubs for beer, wine, good food and stunning sunsets. |

Chalford - the Alpine Village of the Cotswolds: Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds. Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village due to its deep, well-wooded valleys. A walkers paradise with beauty around every corner. Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many beautiful old mills dotted through the valley, and the old Thames and Severn Canal running along the Valley bottom. Many houses you still can't drive to and the community of Chalford has even re-established use of donkey for grocery deliveries!
The Cotswolds : The Cotswolds is 'quintessentially English' and still unspoiled. From Chalford and beyond you can enjoy the honey-coloured stone of the area, the dry-stone walls, the beautiful manor houses and quaint cottages both on and off the tourist trail. Nearby are a myriad of activities from lazing around close to home, walking the Cotwold Way or the Five Valleys, enjoying the sights of places including Bath, Cirencester, Stow-on-the-wold or Bibury, playing golf, visiting Cotswold Wildlife Park, Prinknash Abbey or frolicking in The Cotswold Water Park ....
