Bucks House is a beautiful Grade II Listed building. It was built between 1510 and 1560 with lathe and plaster and a heavy timber frame. It is set on the village green in the centre of Great Bardfield, a medieval conservation village that has changed little in the past five hundred years. 8 guests

All our centrally heated bedrooms are furnished with style and comfort in mind. Each is quite different, but all have the same attention to detail. Our beds, whether antique or modern, have high quality comfortable mattresses, down duvets and pillows and electric blankets in winter. If you have allergies, we can provide synthetic bedding. Each room has an electric heater, spare blankets and a fan.

You will find a bathrobe, hairdryer and heated rollers in your room. In addition, we provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shaving foam, deodorant, cotton pads, cotton buds and large bath sheets in the bathroom. Of course there are remote control televisions, clock radios, armchairs and tea/coffee trays with hot chocolate, decaff coffee and biscuits in every room.
Guests are welcome to use our WiFi internet connection, or our desktop computer to check emails free of charge.
We believe in using only the best ingredients and cook each breakfast individually. We use free range eggs, Suffolk dry cure bacon, home grown tomatoes whenever possible and sausages from the East London Sausage Company. We cater for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. We grill, rather than fry if possible. Your breakfast would look something like this:

PLEASE NOTE: We do not take credit or debit cards. However, we accept personal and business cheques with a guarantee card, sterling travellers cheques, euros and sterling cash. A deposit of 50% is required to reserve a room.
WE DO NOT TAKE CHILDREN OVER ONE YEAR AND UNDER TEN YEARS. We can provide a travel cot and high chair. We have one folding bed which will make either our four poster room or large double non en suite into a room for one couple and one child. We charge £10 per child. This is the largest family room we can provide, but two older children can share either a twin or double room at our normal rate.

Bucks House is furnished with antiques, oriental and Turkish rugs and many works of art. We enjoy welcoming guests from all over the world to Bucks House. Further afield, there are many places to visit. We are 20 minutes from Stansted Airport, 40 minutes from Cambridge and 20 minutes from Bishops Stortford, Great Dunmow, Braintree and Saffron Walden. Thaxted is three miles and Finchingfield 2 miles. The Great Leighs race course is a ten minute drive. Wedding venues in this area include Spains Hall in Finchingfield, Leez Priory, Audley End House, The High Barn, and the Fennes Estate. The Unex Towerlands Equestrian Centre is 15 minutes drive on the outskirts of Braintree.
East Anglia is a beautiful rural area, unspoiled by mass tourism. Beautiful villages and small market towns abound. Within 40 minutes drive of Great Bardfield, you will find yourself in the stunning wool towns of Lavenham and Long Melford, both famous for their wonderful lathe and plaster timber framed buildings and antique shops. The same distance will take you to Dedham Vale, where John Constable painted so many of his famous scenes.

From the M11. Leave at Junction 8 and follow the A120 towards Stansted and Colchester. Take the first exit signposted to Great Dunmow and follow the signs to the town centre. Take the second exit at the roundabout with Tesco on the left and at the next roundabout turn left towards Great Dunmow town centre. You will come to a mini roundabout with a sign to Saffron Walden and Thaxted on the left. Take this road and at the bottom of the hill, branch left at the mini roundabout. Next right is signposted to Great Bardfield and Stebbing (B1057). Follow this road for approximately 6 miles and you will come into Great Bardfield. We are at the end of the High Street on the right, opposite The Vine pub and next to the village green.

There are two good pubs in the village, both minutes from Bucks House. They serve excellent food. There are many good restaurants in the area and we can make reservations and book local taxis.
