There are some places you have visited which will stay in your memory all your life. Dartmouth could be one of those places.
One of the most picturesquely-sited fortresses in England. Dartmouth Castle built to keep the town safe against marauding invaders, has for over 600 years from medieval times to WW11 guarded the narrow entrance to the Dart Estuary and the busy, vibrant port of Dartmouth, with its 'ship sinking' heavy canon and chains that were run across to Godmerock.
Experience the sights and sounds of a fully recreated gun deck. Visit the unusually incorporated fine church of St. Petrox.
For the more energetic take a 20 minute stroll admiring the lovelly views over the estuary, back towards town and the Naval College or take a picturesque river boat trip from the town quay, landing you a minutes walk from the castle. In the Spring take a walk up to Gallants Bower to see the fabulous display of Bluebells.
Why not finish up with refreshments at the 'Castle Tea Room' before returning to town.
The River Dart flows through South Devon from it's source high up on Dartmoor down through Totnes where it becomes tidal, down to Dartmouth where it enters the sea at the Castle.
The beautifully well kept beach at Blackpool Sands and Venus Restaurant.
