Heading south west from Exeter the M5 turns into the A38. Bear right up Telegraph Hill on the A38 signed to Plymouth. The A38 is all fast dual carriageway. At Buckfastleigh (just past Ashburton) fork off and bear left on the A384 to Totnes. At Totnes beware of speed camera by the school! At traffic lights turn right onto the A381 signposted Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. At the village of Halwell turn left just before the Old Inn Pub, by the Church, Signposted A3122 to Dartmouth. Bear left after 400 metres at the top of the hill. After one mile take the first turning on the right, which is signposted "Collaton- no through road". Lower Collaton Farm is about 200 metres on the left. you get to the Forces Tavern you have gone too far; turn round and take the first turning on your left.
If using SatNav, please use the postcode TQ9 7DW, otherwise there is a danger that you will be sent to the wrong end of Ritson Lane from which there is no access to Collaton!

Eating and Drinking There are plenty of excellent restaurants in Dartmouth and Totnes. Virtually all pubs in the area do good value food, and most are children friendly. Our favourite, and probably the nearest, is the Normandy Arms in Blackawton where Sharon and Peter serve delicious food. The Maltsters at Tuckenhay is a pretty quayside pub, which was owned by Keith Floyd until he drank it dry! It serves excellent food and beer, and has a waterfront BBQ in summer in fine weather.
Other recommendations include:
Pubs Old Inn, Halwell George, Blackawton Hunters Lodge, Cornworthy New Inn, Moreleigh Start Bay Inn, Torcross Sportsmans Arms, Hemborough (for children) Restaurants Laughing Monk, Strete Kings Arms, Strete Anzac Bistro, Dartmouth

Activities
|

Sailing and Boating Boat and dinghy hire, and even kayaks and canoes, are available for hire on the Dart, and beautiful trips can be enjoyed up the river to the villages of Dittisham and Tuckenhay (both with pubs conveniently located!) and beyond to Totnes.
Walking There is public access to the coastal path with stunning views of the coastline from places such as Start Bay lighthouse, Prawle Point, Bolberry Down and Bolt Head. The coast is only six to seven miles away. Inland, Dartmoor offers a rugged alternative, with both gentle strolls and arduous hikes. The choice is yours!
Golf The nearest course is Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, one mile away. It has two courses - a pretty, shortish 9 holer and an excellent championship course. The clubhouse also has a pleasant restaurant and bar, driving range, indoor swimming pool, sauna and jaccuzi.
Other courses nearby include:
Dainton (Newton Abbot) Teign Valley Thurlestone (Handicap certificate normally required) Churston (Handicap certificate normally required) Bigbury (Handicap certificate normally required)
