About the area

Location: Puerto Naos
Transport: Should you be unable to book a flight via the internet, please let us help you with useful tips. We are also happy to book a flight for you. We wish you good luck in booking you flight!
Facilities: Like all of the Canary Islands, La Palma is volcanic in origin. It is agreed that volcanic eruptions from the seabed thrust the island to the surface; the island now rests on a 4000 m pedestal. The last volcanic episode took place in 1971 in the island’s south, with the eruption of Teneguia. Even today, extremely high ground temperatures can be detected only slightly below earth’s surface.

One seldom comes across such a variety of landscapes over such a small surface area: alpine mountains, volcanoes, cloud forests, steep coastlines and beaches. Only white beaches are lacking.
About the Area: San Miguel de La Palma, the full name of the island, belongs to the Western Canaries and is thus the furthest away from the African continent (445 km). At 726 km sq. La Palma is the third smallest Canary Island and, along with El Hierro, is one of the youngest islands, about 2-3 million years old.

The largest distance across the island from east to west is 28 km, from north to south 47 km.
The Caldera de Taburiente with a circumference of 28 km, constitutes its centre and is one of the largest craters in the world. At 2426 m, the Roque de Los Muchachos is the island’s highest elevation.

In the authentic villages and towns of La Palma, the locals still live their unhurried lives, thereby preserving a uniquely relaxing atmosphere.

La Palma has about 85 000 inhabitants, of which about 8000 are foreigners. Administratively, the island belongs, like La Gomera und El Hierro, to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Attractions

Dragos Gemelos: In San Isidro, situated above Breña Alta on the way to the Refugio El Pilar, are the twin dragontrees. These trees, which stretch up to 15 m high, are among the oldest on the island.

Refugio El Pilar: Point of departure for many hiking excursions. BBQs with tables and benches, water and sanitary facilities are located at the peak. The Refugio can also be reached by way of El Paso.

Monte Breña: Lookout point from a volcano (565m) with magnificent view of the valley. The lookout can also be reached by car.

Baltavida:Indoor swimming facility in the lower part of San Pedro.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 7:00-23:00, Sat 8:00-20:00, Sun 9:00-13:00

Maroparque: Small botanical garden and zoo in La Questa, 28, the old communication road linking Breña Alta to Santa Cruz.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10:00-17:00, Sat+Sun 10:00-18:00. Tel.: 922 417 782
Smugglers’ harbour: Below Tijarafe are located a large cave and bay, which offer the opportunity for swimming or fishing. Locals used to use the rock face to build provisional holiday homes. The path to the sea is demanding (with a slope of 600m), but well worth it.
