| About the Area: |
Gambier Island is old world living……..very few cars, one little general store and a slow island pace which is perfectly suited to those wanting a tranquil, restful holiday experience.
Our property is situated on the water, with beautiful views over West Bay. The temperate climate of Howe Sound and the design of our home allows Ramus Residence to be a year-round retreat. In Spring and Summer you can watch the boats sail by, while you lounge in the sun, swim at the beaches or explore the forest trails. The colder months are perfect for cozying up to our wood fire and reading or writing while watching the seasons change from any one of our ‘zen views’.
Spectacular Howe Sound is North America's southernmost fjord, located northwest of Vancouver and extending from West Vancouver north to Squamish. Surrounded by towering peaks that rise straight out of the sea, Howe Sound is Vancouver's playground for sailing, diving, camping, hiking, and a host of other recreational activities.
There are many islands in Howe Sound, all named after British Admirals. Bowen Island has a resident population of 3,000 and is serviced by BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay. Anvil Island rises steeply from the sea on all sides and remains virtually uninhabited.
Gambier Island strikes a great balance between the two. It is the largest and its’ beauty remains relatively untouched with the resident population only around 150, even though they are less than a 30 minute boat ride from West Vancouver. There is no car ferry service to Gambier, access is by private boat and scheduled water taxi service from Horseshoe Bay or a passenger ferry from Langdale, outside of Gibsons.
